More than 20 years ago, the Oyster Recovery Partnership was commissioned as a cooperative coalition of multiple partners that contribute to a large-scale restoration program that plants hatchery-produced oysters back into the Chesapeake Bay. As a result of this successful Partnership, more than 5.2 billion oysters have been planted on 1,600 acres of oyster reefs.
As Maryland’s leading nonprofit restoring oysters in the Chesapeake Bay, the Oyster Recovery Partnership also supports the State’s Marylanders Grow Oysters program, provides shellfish aquaculture and fishery support services and operates the region’s Shell Recycling Alliance, which has recycled 2,700 cubic yards of shell.
Educating future generations about the importance of the oyster to the Chesapeake Bay is critical. ORP reaches thousands of families with this message and hands-on oyster tonging demonstrations every year. Come see us at an event. Become an Oyster Advocate today!
