Kinsey Tedford-Callahan
Kinsey oversees ORP’s Sustainable Fisheries Program, where she leads projects that support Maryland’s commercial fisheries, enhance aquaculture, and promote sustainable fishing practices in the Chesapeake Bay.
She earned her BS and MS degrees in Biology from the University of Central Oklahoma and her PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia. Motivated to bridge science and practice, Kinsey focused her doctoral research on oyster population dynamics and worked closely with conservation partners to improve reef restoration outcomes. She also co-developed the first community science initiative on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, using photo stations to build time-lapses of coastal change for research, outreach, and education.
At ORP, Kinsey brings expertise in project management, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and science communication to support collaborative efforts that advance fisheries sustainability. She works with partners to develop digital business tools for wild harvesters, aquaculture leaseholders, and seafood dealers; supports derelict fishing gear removal efforts; and collaborates with government agencies and the seafood industry to strengthen fisheries accountability, reporting, and visibility across the seafood supply chain.
Kinsey’s passion for sustainable fisheries is rooted in her time on (and under!) the water and her connection to the communities she serves. Outside of work, she enjoys being outdoors, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family and pup, Hank.
