Emma Villemarette

Position: Coastal Resource Scientist I
Categories: Staff

As a Coastal Resource Scientist, Emma’s role supports all aspects of ORP’s Operations Team, including the sustainable fisheries, oyster restoration, and monitoring programs.

Emma fell in love with aquatic conservation while growing up on a bayou in Louisiana and running a bait shop with her family. After earning her bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology from The University of Southern Mississippi, she then earned her master’s degree in Renewable Natural Resources- Fisheries and Aquaculture from Louisiana State University. Working under Sea Grant Louisiana, her thesis research there focused on ghost fishing in derelict crab pots.

Emma is excited to bring her enthusiasm for estuarine benthic communities and experience in fieldwork, data management, and science communication to ORP. As a transplanted Baltimorean, she enjoys exploring her local shops, restaurants, and dancing spots. Most of all, she enjoys spending time on the water.
