Get excited, oyster lovers—there’s a new set of wheels hitting the road, and she’s built to spark curiosity, conversations, and action. We’re thrilled to introduce the Schurick Shuck Truck & Trailer: ORP’s newest showstopper and a game-changer for oyster education and outreach.

Designed to turn heads and spark engagement, this bold new duo is more than just a pretty shell. The truck is fully wrapped in eye-catching ORP branding (yes, that’s oysterflage on the hood) and our social handles, making it easy to follow our journey. But the trailer is the real star: a mobile, interactive experience that brings the story of oyster restoration to life.

With our mascot Shelly as your guide, the trailer walks you through the full journey of an oyster shell—from being harvested to slurped on the half shell to recycled, reseeded, and returned to the Bay to help rebuild reefs. Hands-on elements let folks try their luck at oyster “tonging” to appreciate just how tough a waterman’s job can be, and our popular “Shuck Like a Pro” class gives guests a fun and memorable way to connect the dots between enjoying oysters and restoring the Bay.

Why does this matter? Because the more people understand the power of oysters, the more they want to be part of the solution. With the Schurick Shuck Truck & Trailer, we’ll be able to bring our mission directly to festivals, waterfronts, and community events across the region—engaging thousands more people in the work of Bay recovery, sustainable seafood, and shell recycling.

This incredible asset was made possible by a generous gift from two anonymous donors in honor of Paul Schurick—a leader whose quiet dedication, passion for oysters and people, and deep belief in ORP’s mission have inspired generosity on a remarkable scale. Paul never seeks the spotlight, but his example has catalyzed a gift that will help ORP reach more people and make a bigger impact. The truck and trailer bear his name proudly, a tribute to the difference he’s made—and continues to make—in the health of the Bay and the future of our work.

Special thanks to ORP staffer Jordan Salafie of Jordan Paige Studios for contributing one of the beautiful images featured on the trailer design.

The Schurick Shuck Truck & Trailer will make her public debut at the BayPaddle on July 26th—keep an eye out for Shelly and the Shuck Truck rolling into an event near you!
